America Centre for International
Labour Solidarity to support NUT.
The America Centre for International
Labour Solidarity has pledged continuous support to
the programmes of NUT towards enhancing the status
of the teaching profession in the country.
This pledge was made by the Africa Regional director
of the centre Mr. Marc Bayard during a meeting with
the NUT leadership at the Unions head office in
Abuja.
Mr. Bayard expressed satisfaction with the
collaboration the centre currently enjoy with the
union and promise to always partner with the NUT
leadership in developing workable programmes of
mutual benefit.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the National
president the Secretary General Obong I.J. Obong
expressed appreciation to the centre especially in
its recent three legged program aimed at giving
capacity and skills to NUT as a trade union
organizer in the mobilization of potential members
from private schools sector to strengthen the union
membership.
The Secretary General informed the American Centre
for International Labour Solidarity delegation that
a significant number of private school teachers have
currently taken membership of NUT and their visit to
the NUT head office will indeed afford them the
opportunity to make appraisal, creating other
avenues for future collaboration.
In his response the new Country Representative
acknowledged the favourable report and brief on NUT
presented to the centre by Mrs Susan Washington
stressing that he has come disposed to put in his
best with the hope that NUT will equally give extend
to him the needed cooperation.
